Note: Since WordPress is primarily built using PHP, to be selected for WordPress training you must have decent PHP experience. We will look for PHP repos on your Github account. If you don’t have any public work samples but have PHP skills, you can solve one of our PHP programming challenges.
rtCamp is a WordPress Consultancy providing solutions to household names like Google, Facebook, IndianExpress, Al Jazeera, Isha Foundation, HCL, Rotimatic, and many more.
We have been recruiting directly from campuses across India ever since 2015. With over 12 years of experience working primarily in the WordPress space, we have been running a WordPress Training Program that is free of cost and open for anyone to use. In fact, we offer fully paid training without any corporate bond or lock-in.
In rtCamp, we are looking for folks having strong computer science and web development fundamentals. Your knowledge and passion for open source matter more than your grades and/or degree. Dropouts, students with backlogs are more than welcome!
The selection process involves three stages in the following order:
- MCQ Quiz — To test your web development fundamentals. This quiz will give us a good idea about your web fundamentals.
- PHP Assignment — Unless you have worked on a complex PHP project before, you will require to solve one of the programming challenges.
- Technical Interview — Based on your MCQ and PHP programming challenge performance, your technical interview slots will be scheduled. In this round, we verify your MCQ quiz answers as well as PHP assignment logic for obvious reasons.
Only you cross these all barriers, you will be offered to join our training program.
Training Program for WordPress Engineers
This is a full-time training program for 6 months during which you will learn WordPress engineering skills that some of the biggest publishers, businesses, and governments across the world use. This training program is carefully designed by rtCamp’s own senior engineers and focuses on the overall development of individuals with various cutting-edge technologies to meet industry demands.
You will be paid a fixed monthly salary during the training program. By all means, training is akin to full-time employment that includes common benefits such as health insurance, paid leaves, among other perks.
Currently we have two training batches scheduled for July 2021 and January 2022 with max intake of 20 people. But if you have some reasons to join in between, we will try our best to accommodate on case-by-case basis.
Since this will be full-time training with exposure to real-world client and open source projects, you will get a salary as a normal engineer would have.
Your career will start as WordPress Engineers (Trainee) and progress to be WordPress Engineer → Senior WordPress Engineer → Engineering Manager and from there if you wish, you can aim for more leadership roles within rtCamp over the years.
As a WordPress Engineers (Trainee), during your training or anytime during your stint with rtCamp you are more than welcome to switch to any other internal roles such as project management, client-facing sales/marketing role. etc.
Most importantly, there is no lock-in or any kind of bond which forces you to spend X years at rtCamp. You can quit training midway. As well as you can finish the training and join some other business within the WordPress ecosystem or anywhere outside. And no, you don’t need to pay back any training cost to rtCamp in case of separation.
All we expect is that you continue contributing to open source projects for the rest of your life, no matter where you go. Of course, this is not legally binding.
You can apply and be selected at rtCamp irrespective of your stream of education, have active backlogs, or have even decided to drop out from the formal education system!
We have listed a few skills below that would be critical for you to be successfully selected in the WordPress Engineers (Trainee) role at rtCamp.
- Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and web/internet/client-server networking
- Package managers such as Composer, NPM, etc
- Version control software such as git
- Architectural concepts such as background job processing
Good to Have
- Knowledge of WordPress plugin and theme development
- Unit testing frameworks
- Experience with web servers e.g. Nginx, Apache
- Some experience with web-related frameworks such as React, Laravel, SAAS.
- Some understanding of hardware (CPU, RAM, Motherboard, etc)
